What are Alder Cones great for?

Alder Cones have been using in the aquarium hobby for century now and yet not many people know about it or have heard about it. Alder Cones can and will tannin your water just like driftwood or IAL (Indian Almond Leave). What alder cones and IAL have in common is Neocaridina and Caridina shrimp love to walk over it and eat it once there is nothing left in the fish tank to eat and no it will not kill your shrimp. Perhap it is very beneficial. The benefiel is similar to IAL, it will 

• Lower the water pH level
• Reduce water hardness
• Tannin the water
• Provide antibacterial
• Provide antifungal
• Stimulate Spawning with shrimp or fish
• Reduce Stress
• And last but not least makes the pet feels a sense of security
